Adaptability of Stalls

In a previous post ( https://topographyoftrade.wixsite.com/kampala/single-post/2017/09/05/Sea-of-Shoes-before-9am I ) noted how a number of stalls change product sold/vendor selling at different points in the day. I continued to observe these changes of function.

This is from the central zone, the vendor putting up white shirts owns the stall and rents out space to the shoe traders on the left before 9am every day.

A similar case in the central zone, the owner of the stall is seated amidst clothing (right); she separates her stall and rents it out to two different shoe vendors before 9am daily.

Reflections;

It is important to recognise this form of adaptability as it contributes to the 'dynamic' nature of the market I often refer to. A new market with repetitive, identical shop units could jeopardise some of its qualities that allow for a range of different traders and goods sold at different points in the day. This is an inclusive quality of the market that could be enhanced and used as a driver for new designs.
