Sea of Shoes before 9am

A big proportion of the central zone and open spaces within the produce zone that are predominantly used for selling second hand clothing are used for selling shoes before 9am. From 9am onwards these spaces transform completely, as they are filled with clothes again. One of the leaders in the central zone told me about this as she rents out her stall to shoe sellers from 6am to 9am - she has an agreement with her tenants that by 9am, they will have packed and taken away all their remaining shoes.

Different spaces and stalls of shoes being sold in the images below. The wooden framing used to hang clothing in stalls is exposed as a backdrop to the sea of shoes below them (shown in in the first image).

Many of the stalls in the market have various faces to them as they facilitate the sale of different products sold through the hands of various traders. The daily transformations of space contribute towards the dynamic character of the market and are important considerations for any new market design proposals.
