Series of commercial development projects

The plan and photographs below highlight a number of commercial developments around my site. The distance from the northern most project (1) to the southern most project (5) is approximately 1.5km. New structures are emerging rapidly around the site contributing towards the rapid transformation of Kampala's Central District.

1 - Kisekka Market Re-development

2 - Taxi Park Arcades

3- Nakivubo Stadium Re-development - the plot coverage for this project is 12.456acres and the proposal includes the following: Football, athletics, basketball, netball, indoor games pitches, bedroom and conference facilities, changing rooms, a hotel and multi level parking. According to the proposal, 50% of the development will be built up area, the other 50% will be open space.

Ham Shopping Centre (below) is in use, though there is still construction works going on within and around it.

This sign below is copied on a few internal walls within Ham Shopping centre; it says ''those of us selling shoes in Park Yard are now here''.

Park Yard Market which had been in use for close to 3 decades was demolished overnight at the end of February 2017. Vendors were give one months notice to leave the market for the stadium re-development project but were suddenly evicted from the site prior to the given deadline. Since then, some of the vendors have found alternate places to trade from in the surrounding area, including Owino Market and Ham Shopping Centre.

4 - New Arcade on the South-East edge of Owino Market
