One week after the Kisenyi Fire

I returned to Kisenyi one week later and was amazed to find new structures replacing most of the wreckage left by the fire. Apart from the black stains on the exterior walls of the Salabed building, there were few visual signs that there had been a fire outbreak in the area a few days ago. The iron sheets and wooden logs used to construct the previous market burnt down completely but the new structures were rebuilt using the same kind of materials. Evidently, traders are willing to take the risk to start trading again as soon as possible. This case shows just how quick the speed of change is in Kampala and some of the challenges that may come with trying to secure and develop a site.
